The origin of the name is a nod to the beginning of the brand itself. The founders of Beekman 1802 owned a farm that took in another local farmer who lost his property and needed a place to store his goats. Their brand story was born out of the products made with milk from their new residents on the farm. When confronted with creating a new holiday chocolate product, they decided to have a little fun with their story and see what the reaction would be.
We had a double take when we were asked to do the packaging for goat poop by Beekman 1802. Josh—a co-founder—claimed with a smirk, "this will be the peak of your design careers." Jokes aside, this was a huge holiday launch for the brand and would be rolled out on the t.v. shopping channel Evine. The reaction to the product was overwhelmingly positive. The Goat Poop confection tin sold out in less than 12 minutes of airtime of all 12,000 units.
The name of the product is all the sizzle needed, but we played with the bar code a bit too.
